About the studio

About

Emberline is an independent glassblowing studio, founded in 2011 — one furnace, four hands per piece, everything finished the day it is started.

Emberline was founded in 2011 around a single secondhand furnace that had been decommissioned by a university program, and the studio has kept it at temperature ever since.

We work in small series rather than one-offs or mass runs — usually eight to twenty pieces per melt, each one numbered against the melt log it came out of.

One day, one piece

From gather to annealer.

06:00

Charge the furnace

Raw batch goes in before sunrise so the melt is clear by the time the team arrives.

10:30

First gather

The day's pieces are blown in sequence, largest first, while the melt is at its cleanest.

15:00

Hot finish

Lips, feet, and handles happen in the last minutes of workable heat — no reheating into obedience.

17:00

Into the annealer

Every piece cools overnight on a controlled curve; cracking a piece here means starting over tomorrow.

The team

Four people, one furnace.

Pour days are open days

The furnace runs whether anyone is watching or not.

We open the shop floor to visitors on pour days, and every new series is announced to the list before it reaches the gallery wall.
